2018 Pastoral Music & Fine Art Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

The 2018 Pastoral Music and Fine Art Grant Applications are now being accepted.  The Deadline for applications is Thursday, January 11, 2018.  Parishes and Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese are encourage to submit an application.

In 2017, the Catholic Foundation and the Bobbie Dean Little Trust recently awarded $89,703 in Pastoral Music & Fine Art grants to 30 parishes and schools in the Archdiocese.  This is the third year of the grants program after establishing a Pastoral Music & Arts Endowment Fund six years ago.  Each year of the program, the Bobbie Dean Little Trust has collaborated with the Foundation to fund the awards.

The Pastoral Music and Fine Arts Endowment Fund was established to promote and celebrate the performing and visual arts throughout the Archdiocese and the Grants Program was begun to make grants from the Fund in this specific field of interest. The parallel interest of the Little Trust with the music and arts emphasis of the program attracted the Trust to want to help fund the program.  The Foundation’s Pastoral Music & Fine Art Grants Committee established criteria for grants to projects that would stimulate music and the arts at parishes and schools within the Archdiocese.  A call for grant requests was begun last October with a deadline for application submissions on January 12, 2017.

The collaboration between Bob Little and the Catholic Foundation reaches back over 20 years.  Beginning in 1997 Little funded Catholic Foundation scholarships for college music majors.  The scholarships were awarded to deserving Catholic students throughout the Archdiocese and Bob showed great delight in seeing students study pastoral music at the college level. He knew these students would continue to contribute to the music liturgy at their parishes in their adult lives. Bob passed away on September 18, 2011 and his legacy has continued with the establishment of the Bobbie Dean Little Trust.  The Trust funds pastoral music related grants and scholarships, including the Pastoral Music and Fine Art Grants at the Catholic Foundation.

Bob Little taught music at Minneola, Kansas, Edmond, El Reno and Hinton schools. He was the Music and Religious Education Director at St. John the Baptist Church in Edmond and for many years was the Pastoral Music Director at St. Rose Church in Watonga. His vision and legacy continues with this annual support to many parish and school music programs.

Reverend Joseph Jacobi, Pastor at Holy Spirit Church in Mustang said, “As the new church is built at Holy Spirit, the piano will bring dignity to the Eucharistic celebration and help to develop a more robust music ministry at the Parish. We are most appreciative to the Catholic Foundation and the Bobbie Dean Little Trust for their generosity in providing the funding for the piano.  Additional funds from the Parish Altar Society and the Knights of Columbus Council at the Parish have contributed the balance of the funds necessary to purchase the baby grand piano."
