CFO Golf Classic Supports Catholic Schools

The Catholic Foundation’s 11th Annual Golf Classic by every measure was again a huge success. The event, held on June 4 at Gaillardia Country Club, sported 204 golfers in both morning and afternoon sessions.

In addition to the golf played on a great weather Monday in June, a lunch, wine & cheese gathering, silent auction and awards dinner were held. The net proceeds of the event was almost $75,000 and will be split with half going proportionally to the 21 Catholic Schools and remaining half going to the Catholic Schools Endowment Fund.  The Endowment Fund is set up to support Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese, maintain the quality education and make it affordable to more students.  In the last 11 Golf Classic events, the Catholic Foundation has raised over $300,000 cumulative for the Endowment Fund.

New last year to the Golf Classic was the Father Kirk Larkin All-Parish Team 1st Place Traveling Trophy, which was won by the St. Monica Church Team of Chuck Zorio, Jerry Krittenbrink, Jerry Jackson and Al Warren. Again this year, Catholic schools teams competed in the Schools Flight, which allowed for representative teams from any Catholic school to compete for the Archbishop’s Trophy and a Grant Award to the school.  This year’s winner was the Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School team of Kevin Daly, Caitlyn Farris, Jake Harrell, and Alexis Sadeghy. Second place team who also received a school grant was the St. Eugene School team of Jake Stone, Trey Welker, Cavett Lee and Jody Snowder. Also in the third year of separate prize money was the Women’s Flight. The winning team in the Women’s Flight was Jaimee Zorio, Marlena Chenault and Leslie Ives. Second place in the Women’s Flight went to Susie Fuller, Kitty Belden, Susie Sullivan and Mary Scannell.  The Foundation A Flight winning team was Tom Beadles, Mike McMillin, Michael Fong and Cade McKracken.  Second place team in the A Flight was Baloo Subramaniam, Bill Schultte, Gary Bintz and Chris Greenwood. The Foundation B Flight winning team was David Eaton, Jay Mauldin, Louis Gasbarra and Ryan Eaton. Second place team in the B Flight was Don Greiner, Matt Atyia, Bob Metzinger and Father John Metzinger.

In the Skill’s Contest, the winner of the Closest to the Pin Competition was David Lawrence; winner of the Straightest Drive Competition was Dallas Mauch; winner of the Longest Drive Competition was Caitlyn Farris, winner of the Longest Putt Competition was Rick Nash.  No one won the Hole-in-One contests for a new 2012 Buick Verano from Rick Jones Buick-GMC or for a new Golf Cart from Justice Golf Cart Company.

Chairman of the Golf Classic was Jaimee Zorio. The event committee included Mary Beadles, Don Creel, Russ Farley, Patricia Hudacko, Kevin Karpe, Jerry Kelley, Mary McAnulty, Mary Mills, Jill Nisbet and Barney Semtner.
