The Saint Katharine Drexel Fund provides assistance to parishes in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City to carry out their mission of Catholic education. By empowering local parish communities to direct educational funds where they are most needed, the Drexel Fund seeks to ensure the system of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese is financially stable for future generations.
Saint Katharine Drexel imbued the love of God and neighbor. She took an avid interest in the material and spiritual well-being of black and Native Americans, founding schools throughout the American South and West. Because of her lifelong dedication to her faith and her selfless service to the oppressed, Pope Saint John Paul II canonized her on October 1, 2000 to become only the second recognized American-born saint.
A committee made up of Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma board members and clergy will oversee the fund. Drexel grants are typically for $2500 and can be used by the parish to fund operational or capital maintenance issues in the school. Grants will be awarded based on per capita financial strength of the parish. Initial criteria for parishes to be eligible to receive grants includes a parish per capita income of less than $500. Only parishes with a parochial school can apply.
